Kari Hoglund Kounkel worked in school transportation for thirty years, starting with data entry at the age of 15. Over the next three decades, she wore many hats at the family business: housekeeper, receptionist, dispatcher, bus driver, safety director, financial officer, and driver manager. She never quite mastered the knack of mechanical operation, and left that to fellow employees.
She excelled at writing and speaking about school transportation, with one administrator telling her, "You make me want to know more about school buses every time I hear you talk!"
After a tragic bus crash in 1997, she learned about transportation from a whole different perspective. She has written about her experience on April 10th, crash day, and is ready to share those experiences with others.
