Kari Hoglund Kounkel worked in school transportation for decades, first doing data entry at the age of 12. Over the course of her career, she wore many hats at the family business: housekeeper, receptionist, dispatcher, bus driver, safety director, financial officer, and driver manager. She never quite mastered the knack of mechanical operation, and left that to fellow employees.
She excelled at writing and speaking about school transportation, with one administrator telling her, “You make me want to know more about school buses every time I hear you talk!”
In the aftermath of a tragic school bus crash in 1997, she learned about transportation from a whole different perspective. She has written about her experience on April 10th, and shares those experiences with others.
